Flat bite, sometimes called open bite, is a non-linear plate area bitten without texture. Wide flat depressions, even if deeply bitten, will be wiped out in printing if there is no tooth in them. Ink accumulates at the edges, but in the center it is held only by the grain of the metal. The image will be unevenly toned, with dark edges.
